RCVS Registration for South African Vets: The Practical Route
How South African veterinary graduates register with the RCVS to practise in the UK, what documents are needed and where delays usually happen.
Who this applies to
Any South African veterinary graduate who wants to practise in the UK. Registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is a legal requirement before you can work as a veterinary surgeon there.
The two routes
- Recognised degree route. If your primary qualification appears on the RCVS list of recognised degrees, you apply for registration on the strength of that qualification. This is the route most Pretoria BVSc graduates take.
- Statutory Membership Examination route. If your qualification is not recognised, the RCVS examination is the alternative pathway.
